ATV Expedition: The Dream Road
This energetic, 58 kilometer (36 mile) ATV expedition takes you through the rugged West Fjord Alps, up a mountain pass, and along the enchanting coastal terrain of Arnarfjörður and Dýrafjörður. Riding around the peninsula, you'll encounter continuous jaw-dropping scenery travelers rarely get to see, guided by locals who grew up there.

Overview
The Mountain Pass
The adventure on The Dream Road begins as we head south out of Þingeyri, through pine trees and farmland alongside Sandafell Mountain. After splashing across the Sandaá river, you'll blaze up the gentle slopes of Kirkjubólsdalur, riding past waterfalls cascading from the peaks on either side. Deeper in the valley, the incline steepens and the rocky path switches back and forth before reaching the crest of Álftamýrarheiði, "Swan Swamp Mountain Pass". Here, we will stop to soak in the mesmerizing view of Kaldbakur (the tallest peak in the West Fjords) and enjoy our panoramic surroundings at the highest point of elevation on the ride.
The Fjords
After lunch, we'll begin the descent down the other side of the mountain toward the coast, where the gravel track meets F-road 622, Svalvogavegur. The next 36 km (22 mi) boasts unrelenting jaw-dropping coastal views, taking you around the outer edge of the peninsula alongside two fjords: Arnarfjörður and Dýrafjörður. We'll encounter ruins at Stapadalur, lupine-quilted foothills (late May- Mid July), seaside cliffs, jagged peaks, and more along the way.
The Local Difference
Your guides are West Fjord natives, with a deep connection and admiration for the land they grew up in. Riding ATVs started as hobby for them, and while exploring the beautiful nature of their own backyard, they thought, surely other people must find this fun too. They know the mountains and meadows, and the bends of the rivers like the back of their hands. This is for travelers who want to hear stories about growing up in a remote valley, and get to know the regions they adventure through with people who are passionate about sharing it.
