We are just people with unwavering wanderlust who LOVE adventure and have a deep curiosity about the world! As much as we love visiting other countries, we realize how incredibly lucky we are to call this stunningly beautiful, moss- covered island home. Our mission at Layover is to enrich your journey through Iceland by incorporating our point of view on traveling- seeking less explored places, trying new things, meeting locals, and learning history while having the time of our LIVES.
Heather loves to write, and will be busy typing up blogs on things to do, culture, fun facts, and travel and safety tips to INSPIRE your planning, and get you EXCITED for your trip!
We work with other businesses who share our mentality and vision for tourism in Iceland, and provide unique experiences in small groups or private settings.
In September 2023 we moved into a tiny cabin on the South Coast of Iceland (in the middle of nowhere) after only having spent 20 days together in our entire lives.
Not even a year had gone by since the previous November, when we met by chance in a hostel in Budapest. Was it love at first sight? No, but we were best friends for about five days before we parted ways. Over the next several months, our friendship was reduced to liking each other’s posts and exchanging a few messages here and there.
We didn’t see each other again until the following July, when I (Heather) accidentally found a cheap ticket to Iceland. After our ten day visit, and worst goodbye of my life, I felt like I found the place I was meant to be.
Long story short, it was love at second sight. I returned a month later, Jökull picked me up from the airport, we bought a plant (named it Greg), and moved into the cabin that afternoon. Jökull sponsored my work visa, and he brought me on as a glacier guide. After my visa was approved, we got a cat (named her Salka). We married in August 2024, wearing our wool sweaters to the ceremony.
We stayed in the countryside, having a blast running our first company together, Glacier Odyssey. We spent most of our days exploring Sólheimajökull, guiding private groups through the icy wonderland.
Due to our growing concern about the longevity of the glacier access, we made a bittersweet decision to move to Reykjavík this year. Guiding will always be a passion of ours, but we are finally bringing Layover to life- the project we had been dreaming about for the last few years!
